Farewell 4P!

You have finally finished Year 4! Congratulations! You have been a wonderful class. You have been very hardworking and made good progress so you should be very proud of your achievements. This blog will always be here so you can reflect back on all of the fantastic things you got up to during your time spent in Year 4.

Thank you for all of the gifts, cards and messages. I really appreciate it. Thank you for being such a lovely and helpful class!

Don’t forget to come and tell me how you are getting on in Year 5. My door is always open!

Have a happy and safe summer holiday.

All the best, Miss Parrish.

Olympic Sports Day!

Last Thursday the rain held off and we finally managed to have our Olympic Sports Day. It was quite incredible! We had our own Olympic style opening ceremony complete with Olympic torch bearer. Everybody took part in Olympic style activities. Well done Broadmeadow, you all showed fantastic sportsmanship. A memorable day enjoyed by all.

Now we are all in the spirit ready for London 2012!

Projects

Miss Matthiae visited 4P today to have a read of the homework projects and story books that children wrote over the half term break. She was so impressed that she awarded every single project with a head teacher’s award! Congratulations to all of those children. I thoroughly enjoyed reading them all too, I learned so many facts! It is great to see so many members of 4P taking control over their own learning.

There were some fantastic story books too, I think there may be some blossoming authors among us!

Keep up all of your hard work everyone.

In Science we have been learning about changes in materials.  We discovered that some changes, such as melting, were reversible. A reversible change means it changes how the material looks or feels, but doesn’t create a new material. We melted butter, wax and chocolate. When they cooled down, they all solidified again.

Next, we investigated irreversible changes (a change that cannot be changed back again.)  We found out that heating and burning were an examples of irreversible changes.  In an irreversible change, a new material is always formed. We heated up raw eggs to make scrambled eggs and burnt some bread to make toast! We knew there was no way we could get that raw egg or bread back again!

Do you know of any other changes that are reversible or irreversible?

A Viking visited Year 4 recently, Mr Ragnar Olofsam (a.k.a Mr Bruton!). He was a brave but scary character. We loved listening to his stories,  the experience was a wonderful inspiration for a piece of creative writing……..

Well it wasn’t quite a Roman invasion, however year 4 did have a visit from a very special guest last week…..a Roman Legionary!

He told us many interesting details about life as a Roman soldier. Please leave a comment with the facts you can remember 4p!

Take a look at all the exciting things we got up to………

Poetry is Power!

We bring to you a selection of poems written by 4p!  We were inspired by the Language Alive poetry workshop. We hope you like them. Can you spot which poetic devices we have used?

The Romans

On no the Romans are marching into battle,

Click, clock, click, clock,

With their sharp swords and armour.

Oh no the Romans are in war against the Celts,

Swish, ow, swish, ow,

With their life in danger.

Oh no the Romans are building Hadrian’s Wall,

Heave,  ho, heave, ho,

With gentle hands so it can last forever!

Oh no the Romans are cooking dinner,

Plip, plop, plip, plop,

Trying to put the ingredients in.

Oh no the Romans are eating meat,

Gobble, yuck, gobble, yuck,

Scoffing their last bit.

Where are they going next?

Romans

Romans marching into battle, stomp, stomp,

Outrageous roads being made, scrap, scrape,

Making house? Bang, whack,

Amazing armour, eek, eek,

Now they’re building aqueducts, smack. pow,

Shriek, shriek goes their axes on Hadrian’s Wall.

Poof, paff go their feet,

Orders being shouted, screech, screech,

Everybody’s building, tap, tap,

Moving all at once, wham, wham.

The Romans

In Great Briton a thousand years ago,

Right here lived the Romans,

And they gave us straight roads for their horses,

Clip, clop,

But now we have cars,

Broom, broom.

The had big pots over a  fire to cook food,

Bubble, bubble,

But now we have ovens to cook food,

Gobble, gobble.

They had little stools out in the market place,

Stomp, stomp,

But now we have big shopping centres,

Stamp, stamp.

And that is what the Romans helped us with!

The Romans at War

I can see the Romans, marching into battle,

Squish, squash, squish, squash,

Go their sandals in the sticky mud.

I can hear the Romans, swords swaying side to side,

Swish, swosh, swish, swosh,

Goes their silver shiny sword.

I can smell the rotten bodies lying in the dark ditches,

Deep, down, deep, down,

People crying tears of sadness.

If I could hear the Romans

If I could hear the Romans building, it would sound like,

Clip, clop, bang, scrape.

If I could hear the Romans marching, it would sound like,

Stamp, stomp, squish, squelch.

If I could hear the Romans fighting, it would sound like,

Stab, splat, whack, ouch.

If I could hear the Romans digging it would sound like,

Slap, wallop, dig, dug.

The Romans

The Romans gave us aqueducts, buildings, roads and homes,

They also gave us heating which makes us blazing warm,

Ouch, ooh, hot, hot, hot.

STOMP,  STOMP, that must be the Romans going to battle,

Clash, clash, aren’t they loud?

Bang, boom, they must be hurt,

Ouch, oo, ow, boom bang.

I can see the workers at work,

They look out of breath and they look exhausted.

Is that the Romans giving each other dinner?

It smells horrible, ew, ew, ew,

So smelly, so stinky, ew, ew.

The Roman Rhyme

I can hear the Romans, marching magnificently,

Left, right, left, right.

I can feel the excitement as the Roman chariot clatters by,

Click, clack, click, clack.

I can smell the smouldering smoke, spreading like a cloud,

Sniff, whiff, sniff, whiff.

I can touch the amazing aqueduct as it carries water to the Romans,

Splish, splash, splish, splash.
